Have You Explored Chiang Mai’s Digital Nomad Cafés? Here Are 5 I Loved

I spent a week in Chiang Mai to experience the digital nomad café culture that many remote workers talk about.

Most people suggest staying in the Nimman area Chiang Mai, and it's true—there are plenty of cafés, coworking spaces, and one-bedroom apartments available. It's easy to settle in.

But honestly, I preferred the Old Town Chiang Mai area. It has better cafés and offers a more peaceful environment to work in.

Here are my thoughts on five popular Chiang Mai cafés for digital nomads:

🌿 Fern Forest Cafe

This café feels like an oasis in the Old Town, with a beautiful garden and a colonial-style white house. It’s always busy, but it’s spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is long with lots of food and drink options. It’s a little pricey, but the food is really good. The atmosphere is calm even though it gets very busy, making it a great place to relax or work. I ended up coming back a few times just for the vibe.

📚 Into the Woods

Not the cutest-looking café in the Old Town, but it’s decorated with fairy tale-themed wall paintings. It's a perfect spot if you want to stay the whole day and get work done. The food is very affordable, with lots of choices from Thai to Western. I came back here more than once too.

☕ Artisan Cafe

A quiet spot good for laptops. The café has a vintage, rustic interior with antique decorations, and it's not located in Nimman or Old Town. They mostly serve pastries and drinks. Simple and peaceful if you just want a light snack while working.

🦋 The Butterfly Connection Cafe

A laptop-friendly cafe in the Nimman area, part of a hotel. It has a cozy, minimal design, but the menu is on the expensive side.

🌞 Sun Rays Cafe

A super cute brunch café located in the Old Town, with beautifully presented and tasty dishes. It can get very busy, and I wouldn’t say it’s great for laptops because of the limited space. It's better for reading a book or just chilling. It's also a little on the expensive side.

Happy café hopping and getting work done in Chiang Mai! - 🖤 Dinuka

P.S. Don’t forget to stroll through the night markets, explore the handmade markets, and take in the beauty of the Old Town temples when you have time!

Just a warning — you might get addicted to living in Chiang Mai. 😉
